Radnor Needs More Open Space Funding
Escalating property values and disappearing open land mean that what remains of Radnor’s open space is increasingly at risk. If the current rate of development continues, we will see complete buildout in our township in the next ten years. That future would carry with it an array of negative impacts including changes to the character of our community, increased crowding in our schools, greater traffic congestion, and a loss of the green spaces which today make our township such a desirable place to live.
One of the few tools available to preserve land in Radnor is the Township’s Open Space Fund which is used to protect properties through acquisition or easement. To be effective, this critical fund needs to be replenished. There is not enough money available today to allow Radnor to purchase the substantial properties that residents view as worthy of protection
A newly formed, non-partisan group of Radnor residents, Citizens to Preserve Radnor (CPR) wants to see our township’s open space program continue and grow. The alternative is stark. Opportunities that are lost today will be lost forever. We urge all Radnor residents to join us in working to reinvigorate Radnor’s Open Space program for the next decade. Now is our chance to make that vision a reality. Now is the time to replenish our Open Space Fund.
