Open Space Trends in Radnor

Historically, the balance between land development and land protection in Radnor has greatly favored development.

  • Since 1990, 28 acres have been developed for each acre acquired using Radnor’s Open Space Fund.
  • Radnor voters approved $10 million for open space protection and parks improvements in 1994.  To date, our Open Space Fund has been used to purchase 51 acres of park land.
  • In the 1990’s, 1442 acres of land were subdivided for development purposes.
  • Over 1100 acres have been subdivided in each of the past five decades.

  • Today, less than 2000  acres of subdividable residential land remain in Radnor Township.
  • If historic rates of development hold, we stand to lose most of the remaining open land in Radnor in the next decade.  The time to act is now.
  • Land values have escalated greatly since voters passed the last bond referendum. These higher prices make it harder to stretch our remaining open space fund to take advantage of desirable opportunities when they arise.  More money is needed if the Township is to be able to take action to protect Radnor’s remaining open lands.
